BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — A 20-year-old man has been charged with stealing a car from an apartment complex parking lot, police said.

Briann Williams-Larose of Philadelphia was charged with receiving stolen property, the unauthorized use of a vehicle, and resisting arrest. He was arraigned by District Justice Brian Marriott and sent to Bucks County Prison on 10 percent of $25,000 bail.

Bensalem Police responded at 6:30 p.m. Sunday after a call from a resident about a suspicious man in the Primavera Square Apartments parking lot on Station Avenue.

The resident reported that a black man wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt and carrying a large screwdriver entered a black Hyundai Sonata with the driver's side rear window smashed out, police said.

When the police officer arrived, the man was seated in the driver's seat, a broken part of the steering column was on the floor, and shattered glass from the window was seen throughout the car.

Police watched the man put on a pair of black gloves. When the officer asked him questions, the suspect became evasive and uncooperative.

He was removed from the vehicle and refused to show the police officer his hands, police said. As the officer secured him for safety reasons, he began to resist, pull away, and tried to flee. The officer held him against the vehicle until backup officers arrived and took him into custody.

Officers contacted the vehicle owner and determined that the vehicle was stolen from the rear of B&B Bagel, 1542 Bristol Pike, Bensalem, just an hour earlier at 5:30 PM.

Police obtained video of a subject matching the description of Williams-Larose throwing a rock through the window of the car, entering the vehicle, and driving away.

Police said the crime may have gone unresolved if it wasn't for the resident's keen eye and willingness to call police. Police are reminding residents that anyone who sees something suspicious should dial 911 and report it to police.
