📰 News we're reading

1. Ruling on 8 apartments in Bethlehem deferred; elevations submitted were from project across town (lehighvalleynews.com) — Bethlehem planners have delayed a decision on an eight-unit apartment building on West Union Boulevard after the developer submitted drawings from a similar project across town. Officials will reconsider the plan by Feb. 28, after receiving proper renderings, with the next planning commission meeting set for Feb. 12 at Bethlehem Town Hall.

2. LANTA set to raise fares for all routes for the first time in over a decade (wfmz.com) — Bethlehem riders could see LANTA bus fares rise as soon as late March, with base fares jumping from $2 to $2.50 and monthly passes from $60 to $70. A public hearing on the proposal was held Wednesday night at 60 West Broad Street, as LANTA cites long-frozen fares, rising operating costs, and state funding requirements.

3. Still no arrests for shots-fired incident outside youth football championship in Bethlehem (lehighvalleylive.com) — Bethlehem police are still investigating nine shots fired near a packed youth football championship at Sell Field in November, with no arrests yet announced. Investigators are reviewing nearby surveillance footage, while the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Football League stresses its conduct rules and says it will work with police and member organizations to improve safety and fan behavior.

4. Judge sentences man to life in prison in fatal Allentown park shooting (wfmz.com) — A Bethlehem man has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in a 2024 fatal shooting at Fountain Park in Allentown. Prosecutors say multiple defendants were involved in the killing of a 25-year-old man who was shot while playing basketball, with several co-defendants still awaiting trial.
