Bryn Mawr ACME Plans Tuesday Groundbreaking Ceremony

Construction on the Bryn Mawr ACME is scheduled to begin today with a 3 p.m. groundbreaking ceremony.

The 601 Lancaster Avenue store, which closed Thursday, May 12, has a targeted reopening date in March 2012. The new building, slated to be a flagship ACME, is going to be more than 37,000 square feet—more than a third larger than the current store, according to an ACME press release.

The store is expanding onto neighboring property that used to be a Jaguar dealership, which has already been mostly demolished.

“The new store has been designed to provide customers with a comfortable shopping experience and quality products that are healthy and easily prepared with a central focus on delivering premium customer service,” according to the press release.

More than 35 shade trees and a number of plantings will be added, and parking will increase by 20 percent, the release states. Warminster, Pa.-based Northwood Construction Company is the project developer.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, ACME, 6ABC and Tastykake will present a check of about $44,000 to Philabundance from a holiday food drive, Steve Sylven of Supervalu wrote in an email.
