BRYN MAWR, PA — A former teacher at Harriton High School in the Lower Merion School District recently pleaded guilty to posing as a teenager to get other teenagers to send him sexually explicit photos.

The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Magazine both reported Jeremy Schobel, 32, admitted in federal court to six counts of receiving and manufacturing child pornography. He faces a minimum of 15 years in prison.

In court, he admitted one of his victims was in fact a Harriton student after initially denying any of his targets were in the district, the outlets report.

Schobel, of Philadelphia, was taken into custody in June 2023 by the FBI.

Authorities said he posed as young girls on the Yubo and SnapChat apps under the guise of finding relationships with other young women.

Investigators learned from SnapChat data that the accounts he allegedly used were geolocated to Harriton High School.

Authorities said he admitted to federal agents to doing so for years after being taken into custody on a search warrant.

Charging documents show the investigation began in November 2022 after Yubo tipped off investigators to accounts that appeared to be "grooming" underage girls and later said the account was owned by an adult man.

"He had no prior record that would have precluded his hiring. While we understand that this is an ongoing investigation, at this time, LMSD is not aware of any inappropriate interactions between Mr. Schobel and LMSD students," the district said at the time. "Additionally, the District had not received any complaints or concerns from students or staff regarding his conduct in school."

He is scheduled to be sentenced June 25.
