Knife-Wielding Man Threatens SEPTA Riders In Bryn Mawr: Police

Radnor Police said officers had to use a taser on the man after he refused their orders to drop the knife Monday night in Bryn Mawr.

BRYN MAWR, PA — Radnor Police tasered a man and took him into custody after they said he threatened SEPTA riders with a knife Monday night.

The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. Monday at the SEPTA trolley station at Roberts Road and Charles Drive, police said.

SEPTA contacted Radnor Police, telling them a person on a trolley was threatening passengers with a knife.

Witnesses said the man was armed with a knife, and he cornered himself into a trolley car, Radnor Police told Patch.

When officers arrived, the told the man to drop the knife and he refused. He approached the officers, who then used a taser in an attempted to subdue him, but the taser was not effective.

Officers used a taser a second time, and were able to take him into custody and secured the knife.

Police said the man — who is in his 20s and from Philadelphia — was bloodied from an unknown incident when he got on the trolley that was heading toward 69th Street Station. It's unclear exactly where he boarded the trolley.

The man was spitting blood as passengers and was combative with EMS personnel, according to authorities. He was under the influence of alcohol and narcotics, as well, police said.

Police evacuated the trolley during the incident and said no passengers or the trolley operated were harmed.

He has been charged with terroristic threats, harassment, and related crimes, police said.
