Local Teen a National Honoree on Incredible Kid Day
Millions of People to Celebrate 24th Annual Absolutely Incredible Kid Day® on Thursday, March 19.
March 6, 2020 – “You matter. I see you. You’re incredible and here’s why…” Millions of people across the U.S. are invited to celebrate Absolutely Incredible Kid Day® on March 19, 2020. Founded in 1997 by national youth development organization Camp Fire, the goal of this unique holiday is to activate adults to send notes, emails, letters, texts, or videos to the young people in their lives. The medium doesn’t matter but the message does. This simple, free, and meaningful action can transform a young person’s life.
This year’s #KidDay has special participation from two movies: The Call of the Wild (now in theaters), including a special :40 second video message from its leading actor Harrison Ford, and TROOP ZERO (now streaming on Amazon Prime Video), the first national Absolutely Incredible Kid Day® 2020 sponsor.
“Kids and teens are more lonely, anxious, and worried than ever before. Suicide rates are soaring. I don't think we can underestimate what it means for each of us to take time to tell a young person, ‘You matter, and this is why,’ said Greg Zweber, president and CEO of Camp Fire. “We are passionate about Absolutely Incredible Kid Day® and the opportunity to bring millions of people together with one easy goal – to lift up the kids in our own lives and communities.”

Camp Fire’s 52 councils in 25 states and D.C. will hold dozens of #AIKD events across the country. Camp Fire National Headquarters has partnered with Camp Fire Heart of Iowa for their annual Absolutely Incredible Kid Day Celebration in Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday, March 24. The event will honor five Incredible Kids who were nominated, two national youth honorees, and three youth from the Des Moines area.
One of the national youth honorees is Aidan Peterson an 8th grader at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Aidan is a member of Bugles Across America and has been volunteering his time to perform Taps at military funerals and events since 2015. Aidan also plays cello for patients at the VA hospital in Philadelphia, a volunteer music therapy initiative he instituted two years ago. Aidan attends classes at Juilliard in NYC on the weekends where he is the youngest trumpet major in the pre-college program. After recently losing a veteran friend to suicide as a result of PTSD, Aidan’s future plans are to focus efforts on raising awareness about mental health issues in veterans.
