Police Blotter: Multiple Burglaries and Incidents of Public Drunkenness Reported

Police reported last week's crimes Monday afternoon.

Lower Merion Township police reported a series of crimes and incidents Monday afternoon, April 4, in a weekly briefing to news media, mostly burglaries and public drunkenness. 

Burglary: A burglary was reported on March 28 on the 500 block of Spring Mill Road in Villanova, police said. The burglary occurred sometime between March 25 and March 28 while the victim was away, police said. Upon return, the victim found the front door slightly ajar, and it was discovered someone had forced entry to a side window and ransacked the bedrooms, police said. Police said the burglar bypassed electronics and instead stole between $5,000 and $7,000 worth of jewelry.

Burglary: A burglary from the 800 block of Montgomery Avenue was reported on March 28. The burglary occurred sometime between March 27 and March 28, and an iPod and Nintendo Wii were missing from an apartment the victim shares with roommates, police said. Police said the electronics stolen were worth about $500, and no one was seen or heard.

Theft: Police said someone stole checks from offices on the 600 block of Montgomery Avenue in Bryn Mawr. The theft occurred sometime between March 25 and March 29, police said, and it appears someone forced their way in through an office door using a pry tool.

Public drunkenness: Police said they responded to a report of an unknown person causing a disturbance at 1:46 a.m. March 31 at Gullify’s in Rosemont. Police said the man arrived drunk and that friends left him there. Police said employees were trying to keep the man from leaving because they felt he was too drunk, and police said the man fell down when employees were ordered to let him go. Police said the man was intoxicated to a degree he was a danger to himself, and was taken to Bryn Mawr Hospital and was found to have a blood-alcohol content of .24. Police said Colin Murphy, 22, of Potomac, Md., was cited with public drunkenness.

Burglary: Police said a burglary was discovered on March 31 on the 200 block of River Road in Gladwyne. Police said the victim had left at 7 a.m. and returned at 3 p.m. that afternoon to find some slight ransacking in the master bedroom. Silverware, Xbox games and jewelry were stolen, police said. No one was seen or heard, and there were no signs of forced entry, police said.

Public drunkenness: Police said they responded to a report of a suspicious man pounding on the door of a residence on the 100 block of Ardmore Avenue at 12:19 a.m. April 2. Police said the man was drunk and did not know where he was.  Police said the man was Adam Franklin, 21, of Dayton Road in Bryn Mawr, and had a blood-alcohol content of .26. Police said he was cited with public intoxication and with disorderly conduct.

Theft: Police said a resident of the 1200 block of Youngs Ford Road in Gladwyne recently noticed copper downspouts were missing from their property. Police said the downspouts, valued at about $1,800, were stolen sometime between Feb. 1 and April 2.

Burglary: Police said residents of the 1500 block of Monticello Drive in Gladwyne reported a burglary on April 2. Police said the burglary occurred sometime between March 28 and April 2 while the residents were away on vacation and didn’t notice anything out of order immediately upon return. A couple of days later, police said residents noticed damage to a rear door and discovered a jewelry box was missing.
