Cranberry is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Cranberry has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.

A few things to know:

  • Founded in 1804, Cranberry Township owes its name to the wild cranberries that flourished along Brush Creek, its primary waterway, drawing deer and Native American hunters to its ecosystem. While the cranberries disappeared by the 1880s due to drought and farming, the deer remain a common sight, continuing the area's rich natural heritage.
  • The town is home to the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, a state-of-the-art training facility for athletes, and a significant architectural marvel in Cranberry. Serving as the main training hub for the Pittsburgh Penguins and housing an extensive outpatient facility for UPMC Sports Medicine, this 185,000-square-foot venue signifies a pioneering partnership between two world-class organizations.
  • Cranberry Township is home to the Sample Schoolhouse, located on the Municipal Center's front lawn on Rochester Road. This one-room schoolhouse, one of six that once dotted the township, transports visitors straight back to 1874, offering a peek into the days when one room taught it all.
  • Cranberry's parks and recreational facilities are among the best in the state. With ample parkland, including the expansive North Boundary Park and Graham Park, residents and visitors can enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities, from hiking and biking to sports and playgrounds.
  • Cranberry has witnessed a remarkable surge in its population, doubling from less than 15,000 in 1990 to over 30,000 today. This bustling expansion over its 23 square miles can largely be attributed to its prime location, making it an increasingly popular choice for new residents.
