Giant Eagle Laying Off Employees

Giant Eagle, which has stores in Cranberry and Seven Fields, announced it is eliminating 75 positions, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. 

Rob Borella, senior director of corporate communications, told the P-G the layoffs are part of a continuing effort to cut costs and operate efficiently. Most of the eliminated positions are at the company's headquarters in O'Hara.

Giant Eagle employs 36,000 people in four states and about 11,000 in Western Pennsylvania, a mix of part-time and full-time workers, the P-G reported.

Giant Eagle has more than 200 supermarkets and and more than 180 gas and convenience stores in Western Pennsylvania, north central Ohio, northern West Virgnia, and Western Maryland.

In November, Giant Eagle opened a GetGo gas station and convenience store in the Cranberry Crossroads shopping complex near the new Dick's Sporting Goods.

The P-G reports the private company has approximately $9.9 billion in annual sales.
