Rowan Students Blow Bubbles for Autism—and To Break a World Record
The school was one of many across the country to participate in "bubbles of awareness" for autism month.
Bubbles were flying for a good cause at Rowan Elementary School Monday.
In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, Rowan was one of many schools across the United States and Great Britain joining efforts to send out “bubbles of awareness” for autism while trying to break last year’s world record of more than 57,000 people participating in Autism Bubble Day at the same time.
The number of students, teachers and community members participating at Rowan were counted Monday and added to the total number of participants all over the world. That number will be sent to the Guinness Book of World Records.

“Having students blow bubbles at the same time on April 22 will symbolize hope, joy and laughter,” Rowan principal Nannette Farmar said.
Farmar said 515 Rowan students blew bubbles on the playing fields.

The school also raised money for autism awareness. Many students brought in donations, which were split between the Spina Bifida Association of Western Pennsylvania and ABOARD's Autism Connection of PA
ABOARD is a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit provides support to those with autism and their families living in Pennsylvania. Located on Dutilh Road in Cranberry, the Spina Bifida Association provides services for children and families with various needs, including Spina Bifida and Asperger syndrome.
Sharon Wolf, director of Development for the Spina Bifida Association, said she especially liked Monday’s event because it gave students an opportunity to have a good time while supporting other kids.
“This just seems especially appropriate,” she said. “We love it.”
Several students also read poems they wrote on autism, differences, and not being perfect, at the event.
