Dunster Street Fire Likely Electrical

An official from the Pittsburgh Fire Department said the cause of a fire at a Brookline home last week is likely electrical.

in Brookline last Thursday likely was caused by an electrical malfunction, a fire official from Station 26 in Brookline said.

The fire broke out at 664 Dunster Street around 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 17. Fire officials said the blaze was under control in about 30 minutes, and the fire was mainly contained to the attic and an upstairs crawl space area.

Although an official cause of the fire has not been released, an official at State 26 said the cause is likely electrical.

The owner of the home was out of town at the time of the fire, but two women who were staying in the home were assisted by the Red Cross. No injuries were reported.

About $20,000 of damage was done to the home, which will need a new roof and insulation, and has water damage. The home can be rebuilt and can still be lived in, the fire official said.
