Water Service Restored After Pump Station Failure

A pump station failure at the PA American Water plant that supplies Dormont Borough is causing low water pressure in the area today.

UPDATE 8:10 p.m.: Power has been restored to the Becks Run Pumping Station, so the conservation notice issued earlier Monday has been lifted. If you experience cloudy water, run the faucets for a few minutes until the water runs clear.

Water pressure is low in Dormont today, Monday, June 24, after a pump station failure at the PA American Water plant that supplies the borough, according to the Pennsylvania American Water website.

PA American Water is asking customers in Allegheny and Washington counties to conserve water after a power failure at the Becks Run Pumping Station.

Dormont Borough posted the following notice on its Facebook page just before noon Monday:

  • There has been a pump station failure at the PA American Water plant that supplies us and that has caused Dormont to lose most, if not all, of its water pressure. Borough facilities, including the Borough Building and the Pool and Recreation Center may have to close if water pressure drops so low that the toilets will not function. Signs will be posted if that were to happen. Summer camp continues as scheduled but if we are forced to close early for the day, parents will be notified in advance. Please access the PA American website for additional details at: http://www.pennsylvaniaamwater.com/
The pump failure also is affecting residents in Green Tree, Castle Shannon, parts of the City of Pittsburgh, Mt. Lebanon, Baldwin Township and Baldwin Borough.
