BUCKINGHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — The board of supervisors have approved the purchase of a conservation easement that will preserve another 21.9 acres of open space in the township.

Under the terms of the easement reached between the township and the Kinney Family Limited Partnership, the land located between Anderson Road and Route 202 will remain open space in perpetuity.

“Here’s 22 acres that will be preserved forever,” announced Supervisor Paul Calderaio. “This just doesn’t happen in a lot of townships. I think this puts us at 6600 acres preserved. It’s literally amazing.”

Under the terms of the sale, the Kinney’s will be allowed to sell the land to the Central Bucks School District for development into athletic fields.

The open space is located across Anderson Road from the Central Bucks High School East campus.

“The good thing about this acreage is that it’s across from the high school and a lot of the kids cross Anderson and cross that field,” said Calderaio. “That’s open space now. We don’t have to worry about some larger building with traffic” coming in there. “It’s keeping the kids safer. It’s giving them a nice environment. Besides the number of acres, it’s a great win just for that.”

According to chairwoman Maggie Rush, the township is also working to preserve an additional 47 acres, also owned by the Kinney Family, at the western end of Anderson Road near Durham Road. That agreement is currently being hammered out between Buckingham Township, the state and the county.
