Central Bucks Teacher Nominated For Life-Changer Of The Year
Mary McDonald has been nominated for the award for her work in establishing the farmer's market at Barclay Elementary School.
DOYLESTOWN, PA — Central Bucks High School West teacher Mary McDonald has been nominated for a "Life-Changer of the Year" award from the National Life Group and the National Life Group Foundation for her work in establishing the Farmer's Market at Barclay Elementary School.
McDonald started the program last year with help from teachers and administrators as a response to food insecurity in the school district, securing donations from food providers such as Philabundance and the Bucks County Opportunity Council.
The farmer's market began as a monthly program but became a weekly drive-through offering during the COVID-19 pandemic as demand increased for food supplies.

She was nominated for the award by her colleague, Lauren Myrtetus.
"Mary has literally prevented more families and students from going hungry than I can even begin to count with this program," Myrtetus said. "It has grown into a massive undertaking, but it's worth all of the time and effort to hear the thankfulness people express when picking up their food. I could not let 2020 go by without Mary McDonald being acknowledged for the life-saving, trailblazing work she is doing to help the families and students who are experiencing food insecurity in the Central Bucks School District."
