Impersonating Police, Scammer Made Doylestown Resident Pay To Avoid An 'Arrest Warrant'

Police shared news of the phone scam, saying that the sheriff's office would "never request payment using cash apps or prepaid gift cards."

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Police met this week with a man who received a phone call from a scammer who claimed to be a sergeant of the Bucks County Sheriffs Warrant Service Division and convinced the man to buy a MoneyPak gift card to avoid an arrest warrant.

The Doylestown Township Police Department met with the man at 9 p.m. on Nov. 16.

Police said the Bucks County Sheriff's Department is aware of the scam, and wishes to inform the public "they will never request payment using cash apps or prepaid gift cards."

Police asked those who receive similar phone calls to simply hang up without providing any personal information.
