WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick and Democratic Congressman Josh Gottheimer, who represents New Jersey's fifth district, were elected co-chairs of the House Problem Solvers Caucus last week.

Rep. Fitzpatrick, a Republican, is replacing New York Rep. Tom Reed, an upstate New York Republican congressman who is facing accusations of sexual misconduct from a former lobbyist.

The bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus was created in 2017 with the goal of "finding common ground on many of the key issues facing the nation."

Nine of the delegation's 58 members, including the co-chairs — traveled to the U.S.-Mexico border in Mission, Texas, this week for a fact-finding mission. They are meeting with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, as well as humanitarian organizations, city leaders and border security, Rep. Fitzpatrick's office said in a news release.

"This isn’t a partisan issue, it’s an American issue—we must come together to resolve this humanitarian and border security crisis," Fitzpatrick posted on his Facebook page Tuesday.
