Flash Flood Warning In Eastern PA As Severe Storm Moves In

A storm with up to 3 inches of rain is moving over the region. "Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly," forecasters said.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — A Flash Flood Warning has been issued in Bucks and Philadelphia counties after severe thunderstorms were tracked moving across the region. As much as 3 inches of rain is possible with this storm, the National Weather Service said in an afternoon alert.

The warning is in place until 6:15 p.m.

The entire Philadelphia region is also under a Flash Flood Watch.

According to the National Weather Service, shortly after 2 p.m., radar tracked thunderstorms producing heavy rain across southeastern Bucks County and northeastern Philadelphia county.

As of 3 p.m., as much as an inch of rain has fallen in parts of the area. "Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly," the weather service said.

The storm could cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other drainage and low-lying areas. Flash flooding is also possible.

"Heavy rain in a short period of time may cause streams and creeks to rise quickly out of their banks," the National Weather Service said. "There is also the potential for flash flooding across more urbanized areas and those areas with poor drainage."

A heat advisory is also in place through Tuesday night. A heat advisory is issued when temperatures are expected to reach 105 to 109 degrees or 100 to 104 degrees within 24 hours.

On Monday and Tuesday, temperatures will hover around the 100-degree mark with temperatures as high as 105, according to the National Weather Service. Tuesday and Wednesday may also see severe thunderstorms, with temperatures expected to remain around the 90s throughout the week, AccuWeather said.

Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch possible.

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Patchy fog between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 89. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m. Patchy fog after 5 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. East wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Patchy fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 92. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m. Patchy fog after 2 a.m. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 71. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
