Patch: What attracted you to politics, and how did you get started?
Mike Bateman: My interest in politics began in college, where I majored in Political Science and frequently discussed political issues and differing perspectives with my roommates. After moving to Buckingham, I became more involved in local government when I saw how directly it impacts people’s daily lives. From how tax dollars are spent to the transparency of municipal contracts, the development of public parks, and even how easily residents can build on their own property—local government plays a crucial role. I want to contribute to positive, meaningful change in Buckingham.

Patch: How long have you lived in Buckingham Township?
Mike Bateman: 4 years
Patch: Tell us about your career and service in Buckingham Township.
Mike Bateman: Professionally, I serve as the National Sales Director for one of the leading pet toy and catnip brands, working with many of the nation’s top retailers. I also co-founded one of the country’s top pet CBD and supplement brands, later selling my stake in the company. In addition, I own a small international business that specializes in anti-fog products for goggles, visors, and glasses.
In terms of public service, I’ve led the opposition to a proposed warehouse development in Buckingham for over two years. I helped form a non-partisan group of more than 2,000 local residents who worked together to successfully stop an inappropriate and potentially hazardous truck terminal from moving forward unchecked. I also serve as Co-President of the Cold Spring Elementary HSA, where both of our children are currently enrolled.
Patch: What are some ways you give back to the community?
Mike Bateman: I give back to the community by volunteering with our church, Doylestown Presbyterian, where my wife Becca is the Associate Pastor, and serving as Co-President of the Cold Spring Elementary HSA. As part of the HSA I help organize and support a wide range of school events and initiatives. I also dedicated countless hours to leading the No Buckingham Warehouse Community Coalition, working to protect our roads and neighborhoods by opposing a project that was improperly filed under the wrong zoning designation.
Patch: If you were to be elected, what would some of your top priorities/policies/changes be?
Mike Bateman: If elected, my top priority would be to put Buckingham’s two largest municipal contracts—the Township Solicitor and Township Engineer—out to public bid for the first time in over 20 years. Without a competitive bidding process, we can’t be confident we have the right partners or that taxpayers are getting fair value. This lack of oversight is fiscally irresponsible and must be addressed.
Second, we need to modernize our zoning ordinances. Many were written in the 1970s and no longer reflect the realities and needs of Buckingham in 2025. A comprehensive review is long overdue.
Lastly, I believe it’s time to remove decks from the impervious surface list, consistent with many of our neighboring municipalities. Decks allow water to pass through and shouldn’t be treated the same as driveways or patios. This change would make it easier for homeowners to pursue sensible projects on their own property.
Patch: What distinguishes you from other candidates?
Mike Bateman: What sets me apart is my commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance. Unlike my opponent—who has repeatedly renewed major municipal contracts with close associates and campaign donors without public bidding—I believe taxpayers deserve open, competitive processes. I will bring a higher standard of transparency and integrity to local government.
Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced during this election?
Mike Bateman: Buckingham is a large and diverse township, and while I truly enjoy connecting with neighbors, it’s been challenging to meet everyone personally. I’ve knocked on thousands of doors and had countless meaningful conversations, but I wish there was more time to reach every resident. Building these relationships is important to me, and I’m committed to continuing this outreach beyond the election.
Patch: What’s the most satisfying part about running in this election?
Mike Bateman: The most satisfying part of this campaign has been hearing stories from neighbors about how I can make a positive difference in their lives. Many people I’ve spoken with simply want to be heard after feeling overlooked for too long. I am committed to listening, understanding their concerns, and representing their voices as Township Supervisor.
