Maria Gallo Leaving As Delaware Valley University President
In 2016, Maria Gallo became the first woman to serve as president of Delaware Valley University.

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Nearly five years after becoming the first female president of Delaware Valley University, Dr. Maria Gallo is moving on to pursue other opportunities, the university announced Friday.
Gallo's tenure will come to a close at the end of the spring 2021 semester.
Prior to becoming the 13th president of the university in July of 2016, Gallo served as dean and director for research and cooperative extension at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. A molecular biologist by training, her previous experience includes being a professor and chair of the agronomy department at the University of Florida.

"I have been incredibly fortunate over these past five years to work with committed and talented professionals in every aspect of our institution," Gallo said in a statement. "I thank the staff, faculty and University leadership for your tireless dedication to DelVal and our students, and for the collegiality and support that you have always shown me.
During Gallo's tenure, the college announced its first endowed professorship, launched a new graduate program in criminal justice, increased its international student population and invested in hydroponics and aquaponics education.

Majid Alsayegh, chair of the college's board of trustees, thanked Dr. Gallo and wished her well in her future endeavors.
"We are extremely grateful for her dedicated service and success over the past five years, particularly in the face of challenging circumstances during the pandemic," Alsayegh said. "Thanks to her leadership, we are well-positioned for continued progress. We look forward to formally recognizing Dr. Gallo at the graduation ceremonies in May."
Dr. Ben Rusiloski, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty, will serve as interim president until a new one has been named, the university said.
