BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Bucks County reported on Wednesday that 91 percent of county employees had been vaccinated against COVID-19.

All vaccine mandate deadlines set by the county have now passed, and 2,323 of Bucks' 2,555 employees had submitted documentation on Wednesday showing they had received the vaccine. The county also said no workers were released from employment for non-compliance with the mandate.

Bucks county has issued 211 medical or religious exemptions to employees who requested them. Unvaccinated employees who received exemptions for COVID-19 will be tested weekly.

Vaccination status is pending for 21 employees, such as those on extended leave, whose present circumstances do not immediately require vaccination or an exemption.

“As we’ve seen around the country, vaccine mandates not only work, but set a good example,” said Diane Ellis-Marseglia, chair of the Bucks County Commissioners. “For the commissioners and the county workforce, it is a privilege to serve our community, and it is our duty to keep our residents safe."

The commissioners, together with the county court system, issued the mandate in late August in a bipartisan move to protect the county’s employees, their families and the public. Employees had until Oct. 29 to get fully vaccinated.

“We are immensely proud that 91 percent of our county staff got fully vaccinated,” Ellis-Marseglia said. “If we could hit those numbers with the rest of the population, we’d be out of this pandemic and back to normal.”

Vaccinated employees will be granted an additional day off and a gift card after vaccination information is verified.
