Police in Doylestown Township have issued a warning after a local resident reported they were targeted by a PECO phone scam.

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Police in Doylestown Township have issued a warning after a local resident reported they were targeted by a PECO phone scam.

According to Doylestown Township Police, the resident reported the incident on Sept. 6, telling authorities they received a phone call that they were late on their monthly bill.

The caller told the victim to send money to them using Bitcoin, saying if they did not, their electric service would be shut off.

"This is a scam," Doylestown Township Police said. "If you receive a similar phone call, contact PECO directly to confirm if the phone call is legitimate. If you need assistance, please feel free to contact your local police department for help."
