Courts: Woman Charged with Possession of Heroin, Man Arrested in Fleeing

The following cases recently were heard by District Judge Thomas Caulfield in Forest Hills:

Christi Elzer, 38, of Swissvale waived her right to a preliminary hearing on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Elzer was charged by Swissvale police Feb. 9 after a traffic stop near the corner of South Braddock and Calumet. The police criminal complaint states she was pulled over after going through a stop sign. Police found that she had outstanding warrants and later discovered a syringe filled with suspected heroin after a search of the car.

Allen Berry, 19, of Swissvale waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of flight to avoid apprehension and firearms not to be carried without a license. Swissvale police charged him Feb. 6 after being called by a local business owner who saw him exhibit suspicious behavior in his place of business. He wanted to remain anonymous. Berry was wanted in connection to other Swissvale crimes, the police criminal complaint stated.

Thomas Boyd Jamison, 18, of Penn Hills waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of two counts of possession of a controlled substance, driving an unregistered vehicle, operating a vehicle without required financial responsibility, driving at safe speed. He was charged Oct. 19 by Wilkins police after being pulled over for speeding.

Maria Matta, 39, of Swissvale waived her right to a preliminary hearing on charges of two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Swissvale police charged Matta Feb. 5 after receiving a report that a woman passed out in a car near the corner of Woodstock and South Braddock. Police stated she seemed to be under the influence with glassy eyes and slurred speech. They later found suspected crack cocaine in the car, two crack pipes, and pills, according to the police criminal complaint.
