'Curtains' Marks 25th Anniversary of Woodland Hills High School Musicals

The 25th anniversary of musicals is celebrated this year through the show “Curtains,” which opens April 27.
Directed by Thomas Crone—who has held that position for all 25 years of Woodland Hills’ musical presence—the show is fairly new, featuring music by the composers Kander and Ebb, the same team known for “Chicago” and “Cabaret.”
“This was on Broadway in 2007 and 2008 which starred David Hyde Pierce from Frasier,” Crone said. “It’s an old-fashioned type musical that takes place in 1959 and it’s a murder mystery.”

The show has a lot of chorus songs, singing and dancing—and also contains a lot of humor.
“It’s basically about putting on a show,” he said. “There’s a murder and a detective comes in to investigate—but also ends up fixing the show.”

Crone said the production also had plenty of parts for the current talent at Woodland Hills High School.
“I knew the kids would have fun,” he said.
The show runs on April 27, 28, May 3, 4, and 5 at 8 p.m., and April 28 and May 5 at 1 p.m. All tickets are $10 apiece.
“I am always looking forward to seeing the kids pull this off because we want it to be as close to the original as possible,” Crone said. “It’s also completely —comic timing is a little tougher than drama.”
Rehearsals have been taking place five nights a week and have been going well, he added.
“It’s not a well-known show, but I hope our reputation will bring people in,” Crone said. “Audiences will really enjoy this show—the tunes are very catchy.”
The box office hours are: Tuesday and Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Contact Patricia Moore at 412.244.1100 x5187 for more information.
