Man Charged in High Speed Chase, Ended with Swissvale Officer Injured

The chase occurred late Friday night.

A man from the South Hills area was arrested last Friday night after leading police in a high-speed chase that ended with one police officer injured.

Benjamin R. Klink, 29 waived his right to a preliminary hearing this week before in .

Klink faces charges that include criminal mischief, fleeing or eluding an officer, driving with a suspended license, four counts of recklessly endangering others, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper display of plate, three counts of duties at a stop sign, two counts of simple assault and driving without lights to avoid arrest, according to court documents.

Swissvale police were called to assist in a police pursuit by city officers coming into the borough Friday night. City officers said they observed many moving around movements in the car and said the driver could be armed, according to the police criminal complaint.

The chase moved onto the Parkway East headed to Monroeville and reached speeds up to 90 miles per hour. It then led to Murrysville and over a hill in a grassy area near Meadowbrook Road, the complaint states.

A Swissvale police officer followed him over the hill, resulting in a crash that also injured the officer with a twisted knee.

Klink had several outstanding warrants for his arrest coming out of Westmoreland County.
