On May 9, South Hills Village will host a free event featuring relaxation and fun in honor of national "Mom's Nite Out," sponsored locally by Pittsburgh Magazine.

The event will kick off at 5 p.m. in the mall's lower level north wing and will last until 8 p.m.

Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments, entertainment and fashion and beauty services and will find information on mom-friendly organizations and events, all focused on rewarding mothers.

South Hills Village officials and their event partners will treat moms with makeovers from Sephora and the entire Macy's cosmetics department and with massages from Massage Envy.

Moms are also invited to enjoy food samples provided by Bethel Bakery and Giant Eagle Market District. For football fans, new Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Bruce Gradkowski is scheduled to appear in front of the mall's Steelers Sideline Store from 6 to 7 p.m.

There will also be a special "Mommy Lounge" at the mall that will include comfortable seating from LoveSac, groovy music and information about popular Pittsburgh-area attractions.

Attendees will have the opportunity to win door prizes throughout the night, including specialty gift baskets. In addition, the first 300 moms in attendance will receive a Mom's Nite Out swag bag filled with goodies from participating stores and local businesses.

"Moms are so incredibly deserving of a night off," said Jennifer Carroll, director of marketing at South Hills Village. "It is our privilege to be the venue where they come to enjoy it."

Carroll added that, as an extra bonus, one lucky mom and her friend will be treated to a trip to Chicago to see Bon Jovi's "Because We Can" tour at Soldier Field on July 12.

Ross Park Mall

A May 9 event at Ross Park Mall kicks off with a 5:30 swag bags giveaway where samples will be available from "Mom's Nite Out" retailers and partners (while supplies last).

Over the next hour, moms will get registered to compete in a game called "Shopped!" and also have a chance to win some prizes. At 6:30, three names will be drawn to compete in "Shopped!"—the event's version of the popular Food Network show "Chopped"—and those contestants will have the chance to go shopping in the mall with a $500 SIMON gift card!

The contestants will be buddied up with a stylist and have one hour to complete a head-to-toe look for a night on the town. But there is a catch. The contestants will have to incorporate three "secret" ingredients: maybe the color red, a cool bracelet and a sexy animal print.

While the contestants are shopping, the other moms will learn about the latest fashion trends and have more chances to win prizes.

When the contestants return from their one-hour shop, they'll face a panel of judges, and one winner will receive a grand prize. Runners-up will also be showered with gift certificates for show tickets and dinner. And all contestants get to keep their outfits.
