Window Smashed at Forever Gold in Plaza Shopping Center

A security guard making the rounds at the Plaza Shopping Center on Ardmore Boulevard discovered the front glass door of Forever Gold had been smashed out.

Though the bottom portion of the glass door had been smashed in, no one had entered the store and the alarm did not activate.

Forest Hills police officers attempted to contact a key holder for the store without success. The security guard said he would attempt to notify the owner.

Police Chief Chuck Williams noted that a gold shop on Brown Avenue in Wilkins was also targeted.

March 5

• The owner of a rental property in the 200 block of Glasgow Road reported a break-in that occurred between 4:30 and 8:30 p.m. on March 4. The property owner told police she had evicted her previous tenant, who had left several items in the house that the owner had to remove. She had seen the tenant pull up to the mailbox that day. Between the time she left and returned, somone had opened a door on the home. Nothing was reported taken.

• Police were dispatched about 4:16 p.m. March 5 for a report of two men throwing what appeared to be rock salt at passing motorists along Ardmore Boulevard in the vicinity of Drew's Restaurant. Police checked the area but could not locate the men.

March 2

• A three-vehicle, chain-reaction accident occurred at 3:41 p.m. in the 2000 block of Ardmore Boulevard. The driver of one of the cars was transported by Woodland Hills EMS to Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville. A second car was privately towed from the scene by the owner. The third car was able to be driven from the scene.

• A woman called police about 4:21 a.m. to report that a dog had been left inside a vehicle parked at Juniper Village for about six hours. An officer located the car's owner, who is an employee at the assisted living facility. The woman told police she leaves the dog in the car while she's at work because it messes up her apartment while she's away. The officer advised the woman that being left in extreme cold or extreme heat is unsafe for the animal. She was warned if this occurred again, police would issue a citation. The woman agreed to comply with the officer's warning.

• A Sharon Drive resident reported finding an English bulldog on Marion Avenue near Pacific Avenue about 2:35 p.m. The dog was wearing an American Kennel Club leather harness but had no tags. Minutes later, the dog's owner called the dispatch center and a dog watcher arrived to fetch the dog at the station.

• An officer observed three men soliciting at the intersection of Ardmore and Yost boulevards about 1 p.m. The officer determined that the men did not have a permit to solicit. The men were wearing handmade "Push for America" posters and holding milk jugs to collect donations. The man could not explain to the officer why that intersection was picked. The three left the scene in their vehicles.

• Police were dispatched to the 2100 block of Ardmore Boulevard for a report of a man forcefully asking for a ride. The man denied he was being forceful. An officer gave the man a courtesy ride to the cab station in Wilkinsburg.

March 1

• Police received a report of kids throwing balls into parked cars about 8:19 p.m. in the 600 block of Barclay Avenue. The area was checked but the youths were not located.
