HATBORO / HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — Every year, the Hatboro-Horsham School District makes sure that students remember their local history.

But they don't have to learn about it always from a teacher or by reading their history books.

They can experience it for real — because that history took place right outside their school.

On Thursday, Crooked Billet Elementary School held its Crooked Billet Day 2025, remembering the Revolutionary War battle that took place in the borough.

Hatboro Mayor Tim Schultz, Council President George Bollendorf, Councilman Alex Myers, Councilwoman Nicole Shay, Borough Manager Hegele, members of the Enterprise Fire Company, Second Alarmers, and other state and local officials attended the event.

"I’m so proud of our elementary school’s dedication to remembering the sacrifice of Hatboro’s heroes," the mayor said. "Our youngest patriots honor our American history for its 63rd year."

The Battle of Crooked Billet was fought on May 1, 1778, near the Crooked Billet Tavern, which is present-day Hatboro. British forces launched a surprise attack in the skirmish against Pennsylvania militia, who had to retreat to Bucks County.
