West Moreland Avenue Bridge Project Nears In Hatboro

Hatboro officials said a road closure is expected next month on the bridge replacement.

HATBORO, PA — The long-anticipated West Moreland Avenue Bridge replacement project is expected to begin next month.

Borough officials were informed Tuesday afternoon that drivers will see detour signs being placed in the area, with the road closed beginning in January. Drivers who use the road should plan accordingly for a new route and leave additional time for commutes.

Residents who live near the bridge will still receive trash collection, snow removal, and emergency services.

Eaton Park will also still be available for visitors. Officials said that parking may be an issue at times during construction, but the pool lot across the street will still be accessible. There will also be construction equipment and trailers in Eaton Park for the project.

Borough officials will provide updates on the project, especially when the bridge is closed.

"This will be an extended closure," officials said. "This project is very complex due to a number of factors, including utility infrastructure that needs to be moved before the actual bridge is replaced and, when done, needs to be placed back. It is not a simple project and involves multiple agencies."

"We do realize that persons who are familiar with the area will not follow the detour and use neighboring streets," officials said. "The streets are public, and traffic can use them, but all traffic laws must be followed."

The police department will be monitoring the area and providing enforcement if needed, officials said.

The West Moreland Avenue Bridge is owned by Montgomery County and the bridge replacement is a county project.
