HORSHAM, PA — Court proceedings continue to slowly play out for a former Montgomery Country lacrosse instructor first charged in 2019 with sending explicit photos to teen girls and, later, with sexually assaulting two teens.

John Mallozzi, 20, of Horsham was arrested in August, 2019 on charges accusing him of sending nude photos to girls he had coached at a lacrosse camp at Wissahickon Middle School in Lower Gwynedd Township.

Since then, three pre-trial conferences have been scheduled in the case. The next is set for April 14, according to Montgomery County court documents.

According to an arrest report, two girls at the camp showed a counselor a nude photo they said Mallozzi had sent one of them via Snapchat the year before. The counselor called police. A Whitpain Township Police officer wrote in the report that Mallozzi, who was over 18, admitted in a written statement that he had asked numerous girls younger than 18 to send him nude photographs of themselves.

Mallozzi was fired as a camp counselor after the girls came forward.

At that time, Mallozzi was charged with sending explicit sexual material to a minor, a felony, and corruption of minors, harassment and soliciting child pornography.

Then, in October 2020, Horsham Township Police filed additional charges that included two felony counts of aggravated indecent assault without consent.

According to a police report, a girl told police that, in June, Mallozzi had sent her a text asking for a ride and that, when she arrived to pick him up, it appeared he was intoxicated. She took him to his home in Horsham where, according to the report, she says he made a comment about her breasts then started touching her inappropriately and grabbing her face while kissing her.

He unbuckled both of their seat belts, then grabbed her hand and forced her to touch him intimately before forcing his hand beneath her underwear and assaulting her, she told investigators. She said the two had never dated or been intimate and that, after the assault, she was in pain and bleeding.

Then, in December, a woman came forward to say Mallozzi had assaulted her in 2016, when she was 13. The police report says that Mallozzi had agreed to give the girl a ride home some time after midnight.

Instead, she told police that he drove her to the parking lot of Hatboro-Horsham High School, where he "forced himself on her" — touching her intimately above her clothing and trying to pull her toward him to kiss her.

She said he refused to stop even though she asked him to do so several times. She, too, said the two had never had a romantic relationship and that she considered Mallozzi an acquaintance.

Mallozzi was arraigned on the new charges in January and is free on $10,000 cash bail. His attorney did not immediately respond to a message Tuesday seeking comment for this story.
