Hatboro Joining Unique PA New Year's Eve Celebrations
Hatboro Borough will hold a "Hat Drop" on York Road on New Year's Eve, joining other communities that drop objects to mark the new year.

HATBORO, PA — Get ready for the "Hat Drop."
The borough will ring in the new year with its first-ever "Hat Drop" on New Year's Eve beginning at 4 p.m. on Dec. 31.
Royson Engineering designed and made the hat for the drop, which will be held on York Road and Moreland Avenue.

Hatboro will join other Pennsylvania communities that mark New Year's Eve with unique celebrations.
Those celebrations include dropping objects like a giant Hershey's Kiss in Hershey, a stainless-steel mushroom in Kennett Square, a Bologna in Palmyra, and a shoe in Akron, alongside traditional fireworks and parties in cities like Pittsburgh (First Night) and Lehigh Valley, celebrating local flavors and history.

These are some of the unique "Drop" Celebrations in the Commonwealth:
- Hershey's Kiss Drop: A giant Hershey's Kiss descends in the "Sweetest Place on Earth," a nod to its chocolate heritage.
- Mushroom Drop (Kennett Square): A 700-pound stainless-steel mushroom, symbolizing the town's "Mushroom Capital" status, is lowered.
- Bologna Drop (Palmyra): A festive drop of a large bologna sausage honors the region's Pennsylvania Dutch culinary traditions.
- Shoe Drop (Akron): A purple-and-gold shoe is dropped, celebrating local spirit.
- Rose Drop (York & Lancaster): York drops a rose (White Rose City) and Lancaster drops a red rose (Red Rose City).

- Lehigh Valley (Allentown): Offers "Tube in the New Year" at Blue Mountain with snow tubing, buffet, and fireworks at Coca-Cola Park.
