HATBORO, PA — The banners will be there.

The Hometown Hero Banners that were not hung during the Memorial Day weekend are ready for everyone to see and celebrate America's birth on Friday.

"The banners are up. It all worked out," said Mayor Tim Schultz, who also heads the Hatboro Chamber of Commerce, told Patch this week.

Every year, the borough hangs Hometown Hero banners along York Road to honor its veterans. The borough hangs the banners every year in support of a program administered by the Hatboro Chamber of Commerce.

But they were missing on Memorial Day.

"It was a mixed communication," the mayor said. "I'm totally over it. There's no ill will."

So the borough took over the banners from the chamber, but Schultz had a parting gift.

The chamber spent $2,000 for 25 new Hometown Hero banners.

Borough officials recently explained the banner-hanging process.

The banners, due to the work involved in hanging them, must be done in the early morning hours before the normal traffic on York Road. This helps ensure the safety of the borough's Public Works employees and has minimal impact to vital parking spaces for businesses.

Hatboro officials said there is a lot involved in hanging the banners, including making sure the existing hardware is in place and operational, attaching them to that hardware, placement, and setting up the bucket truck at each location.

The work must also be performed within rules and regulations since York Road is a state roadway.
