Hatboro Police Officer Hospitalized After Bee Sting Reaction Off Ventilator
Hatboro K9 Officer Ryan Allen, in the hospital since suffering a heart attack brought on by a bee sting reaction, is off the ventilator.

HATBORO, PA — The hospitalized Hatboro police officer who had suffered cardiac arrest brought on by a freak bee sting allergic reaction was successfully taken off the ventilator recently and continues to make slow improvements toward recovery.
Hatboro K9 Officer Ryan Allen, who was rushed to the hospital in October after suffering a heart attack brought on by anaphylactic shock from a bee sting, has "continued to make tremendous progress and has successfully weaned off the ventilator since the beginning of the week," his wife, Whitney Allen, posted to Facebook on Nov. 19.
"He has a bed ready for him at the rehabilitation center specializing in traumatic brain injury patients," Whitney Allen stated in her post.

Doctors believe Ryan Allen suffered a brain injury due to the lack of oxygen sustained during his cardiac arrest event.
Ryan Allen, who is being treated at Penn Presbyterian Medial Center in Philadelphia, is currently suffering from low hemoglobin numbers being attributed to blood thinner medications he was given to help prevent blood clots and a slow bleed, Whitney Allen stated.

She stated that the rehabilitation facility where her husband plans to go wanted to see that Ryan Allen's hemoglobin levels return to a more level before his transfer out of the hospital.
On Sunday, Whitney Allen posted that the couple's young son, Jackson, once again got to visit his dad in the hospital since their first visit last week.
"Since last week when Jackson first saw him, Ryan was opening his eyes and able to look at Jackson and able to squeeze his hand," Whitney Allen posted.
Overall, Ryan Allen's medical team is "very happy" about his progress and his ability to start following commands, Whitney Allen posted.
Whitney Allen stated that her husband had started responding to simple commands, such as bending his fingers, moving his arms and toes, and attempting to kick his legs.
She said in her post from last Friday that it was on that day that Ryan Allen was, for the first time, being purposeful with those types of movements.
"It was also apparent he was trying SO hard to do these things and made me that much more proud of his progress," she wrote.
Overall, while Ryan Allen has a tough fight ahead of him, Whitney Allen said she is hopeful that things will continue to slowly improve for her husband.
"We have a very long road ahead of us but the little things are the BIG things and we are hoping Ryan continues to improve and that his transfer out of the ICU is imminent," Whitney Allen posted on Sunday. "Ryan is definitely showing signs that he is very ready for the next stage in his recover, as we all are as well."
