HORSHAM, PA — Little Eddy must have quite the story about the past month and a half of his life.

On March 4, the shaggy pup had only lived in Horsham for hours — after his humans moved from California — when he went missing. It would be 45 days later when he'd be rescued Wednesday morning, across the Delaware River in Stockton, N.J.

"If only Eddy could talk," Horsham Township police said on Facebook. "He'd have quite a story to tell."

In March, Quakertown-based K911 Lost Dog Search-Team Ruby, a dog rescue group, took up Eddy's cause.

In social media posts, they told the public how he'd been reported to have fallen into the cold waters of Pennypack Creek before climbing back out. There were several reports in Horsham from people who believed they'd seen Eddy.

But he's nervous by nature and scared of strangers, which made him run away when people approached to rescue him.

Team Ruby followed every lead, setting up feeding stations and traps, but wasn't able to catch up with the scared pup.

The trail had grown cold. Then, late Tuesday night, Eddy's mom, Lin, got a text saying a dog matching his description had been spotted.

But, there was only one problem. The text came from Stockton, N.J., more than 20 miles away and across the Delaware River. Could they really have seen Eddy?

Team Ruby didn't sit around wondering. They went "boots on the ground" and set a trap and feeding station in the area where he'd been spotted.

Five hours later, at 5 a.m., the hungry boy was trapped.

"Everyone has been so wonderful," Team Ruby wrote on Facebook. "It takes a village!"

His unlikely story has captured the hearts of the community. By Thursday morning, Horsham ChATs' post about his rescue had received more than 1,200 reactions on Facebook, while Team Ruby's had racked up another 880, along with nearly 230 comments.

"Trying really hard not to cry happy tears at work!" one follower wrote. "So happy he is safe and sound! Such wonderful news! ... Welcome home Eddy!"

A video shared by Team Ruby showed the moment Eddy reunited with his family. In his crate, he starts wagging his tale and whimpering, then barking, after realizing he's home. As soon as the crate is opened, he runs an excited lap around the room, then, tail wagging, jumps into Lin's arms. (WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW)

On Facebook, the teams involved in the rescue were thanking everyone who helped along the way, from the people who searched for Eddy, to those who shared his story online.

"Most importantly, a HUGE thank you to Eddy for allowing us to gain his trust to go into the trap," Team Ruby wrote. "Welcome home, sweet boy!"
