Rabid Raccoon Found In Horsham Twp.

Health officials are asking anyone who has had contact with a wild animal in the area, or thinks their pets have, to call them.

HORSHAM, PA — Montgomery County health officials are warning the public after a raccoon was tested positive for rabies in Horsham.

The raccoon was tested for the disease, which can be transmitted to humans, on Wednesday. It was found in the 1200 block of Lois Road, an Ambler section address in Horsham Township.

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services is asking anyone in the area who has had close contact with a raccoon or other wild animal, or thinks that a pet may have, to call them at 610-278-5117.

Anyone who is bitten, scratched or otherwise has saliva contact with a rabid animal is at risk of contracting the potentially deadly disease. Symptoms of rabies include fever, nausea, headache, vomiting, irritability and agitation, anxiety, confusion and hyperactivity.
