HATBORO & UPPER MORELAND, PA — Work will begin this coming Friday to replace an aging cast iron water main line along Horsham Road, construction that is expected to last until sometime in April 2022.

AQUA will be replacing the 2,520-foot cast iron pipe with a new eight-inch ductile iron water main on Horsham Road from York Road in the Borough of Hatboro to Castello Avenue in Upper Moreland Township.

Officials said that the work will take place on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., and that access will still be provided for emergency vehicles, mail delivery and trash service.

Some Saturday work may occur, but AQUA could not confirm that at this time.

Residents will have access to their homes during the scheduled work, but at times will need to enter their streets from different directions due to changing work zones, according to an announcement about the work.

Local officials said that following installation, the new main will be flushed, chlorinated and tested for water quality before it is placed into service. Once water quality testing is complete, AQUA will transfer each water service and fire hydrant to the new main, after which the old main would be abandoned.

The water company said it would notify customers ahead of time of any planned water service interruptions and would provide a 48-hour advanced notice for any scheduled interruption that is expected to last longer than 30 minutes.

The water main replacement is part of a $1,574,115 project by AQUA to replace more than 17 miles of aging water main infrastructure across Montgomery County.
