HATBORO, PA — The West Moreland Avenue Bridge Replacement Project is underway.

Borough officials said they were notified by Montgomery County that the long-awaited project has begun.

The bridge, which goes over the Pennypack Creek, connects Hatboro with Upper Moreland Township.

The contractor is working with utility companies on the relocation of utilities as well as some tree removal work, officials said.

Once that is completed, the road will be closed and work will begin to replace the bridge, officials said.

Since West Moreland Avenue in that area is a county road, Montgomery County is in charge of the project.

The bridge is located on West Moreland Avenue between Flamingo Road (Upper Moreland) and Broad Street (Hatboro), adjacent to the Hatboro Memorial Swimming Pool.

Borough officials said they will inform residents once signs are posted about the bridge closure.

Bridge demolition is expected to begin in January.

When demolition starts, a PennDOT-approved full detour will be implemented.

The bridge will be closed to all vehicles and pedestrians through the completion of the project, which is expected in December 2027.
