Marino's Stepbrother Questions Police Actions at Perkasie Meeting

The stepbrother of slain Quakertown man Michael W. Marino Jr. who was killed unarmed by Officer Seth Mumbauer in June 9 in Sellersville, an action deemed justified homicide by Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler, came to Perkasie Borough Council and demanded an outside, independent investigation into the shooting.

According to Jennifer Connor of The Reporter, David Cook told council Aug. 6 that Marino "has never been in trouble or done anything to harm another person."

Cook had known Marino Jr., 26, when the latter was six years old, since the 1996 marraige of Cook's mother to Marino Jr.'s father.

The article states that council President Matt Aigeldinger announced the Perkasie Police Chief Joseph Gura would do a thorough, independent review.

Cook told council that Gura's investigation is "a tremendous conflict of interest," according to the article. Cook suggested Perkasie Borough look into hiring an outside investigator.

In the article, Cook states that "one in 17" Perkasie Police officers are trained to negotiate with mentally-ill persons.
