Man Barricades Himself In East Norriton Home, Fires Shots: Police

SWAT negotiators were called to the scene following a pursuit that began with a reckless driving complaint, police said.

EAST NORRITON, PA — A reckless driver barricaded himself him inside a home and fired several shots in East Norriton Monday night before SWAT negotiators convinced him to surrender, police said.

No one was injured.

The incident occurred at around 5:34 p.m. on the 500 block of Wellington Road.

Police initially responded to a reckless driving complaint, and followed the man back to the house.

The driver, described only as a 31-year-old man, was "uncooperative" and refused to exit the home, authorities said.

While inside, he fired several shots from at least one firearm, according to police.

The Montgomery County SWAT-Central Region team was called to the scene, and SWAT negotiators were eventually able to convince the man to voluntarily leave the home and turn himself in.

The driver was taken into custody without further incident. Criminal charges were filed, but police declined to specify the charges or to specifically identify the suspect.

Residents were asked to avoid the area of North Wales Road and Wellington Road while the incident was ongoing.
