Souderton Mennonite Homes Senior Living Facility Gets $2 Million In Grant Funding

The Souderton Mennonite Homes Senior Living Community was approved for $2 million in state grant funding for renovation.

SOUDERTON, PA — A local residential facility for seniors in this western Montgomery County community will soon undergo renovations with the help of new state grant funding that recently came through.

The Souderton Mennonite Homes Senior Living Community was approved for $2 million in funding from the Pennsylvania Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, a program run through the state Office of the Budget that helps with the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf late last week signed the approval of funds for the various projects that were awarded grant dollars under the program.

"I'm proud to see state dollars headed back to our community for this important project to help renovate the living spaces, as well as provide more effective common spaces and amenities for residents," State Rep. Steve Malagari, D-53, said in a statement.

The funding under the grant program will help Souderton Mennonite Homes Senior Living Community construct 38,500 square feet of new space at the facility, and renovate 13,000 square feet of existing space, according to Malagari's office.

The representative said that the senior facility will maintain the existing bed count while transitioning to fully private rooms, and that it would be building 18 and 26-bed additions, as well as reconfigure existing rooms and interior spaces.

Other improvements at the senior facility will include the construction of a new entranceway, the installation of elevators and landscape lighting, the installation of an emergency electrical generator, new power service, asphalt paving, resident unit flooring and resident unit HVAC.
