The Evans-Mumbower Mill represents a bygone era, when scores of mills lined the banks of the Wissahickon Creek, using the water's power to help create wood, paper, ground grain, manufactured felt and other products of industry, according to information provided by Wissahickon Trails.

Most of the mills have since been either destroyed to converted into other uses, with the Evans-Mumbower Mill remaining the only water-powered gristmill left in this part of the region.

The mill dates back to 1745 and was in operation for about a century, according to Wissahickon Trails.

It was handed over to Wissahickon Trails in the mid-1980s, and soon underwent various upgrades and renovations.

The Evans-Mumbower Mill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places back in 2008.
