Local Bridge Closed 'Immediately' Following Inspection
Structural engineers close bridge following recent inspection.
Bucks County Bridge No. 286, which carries Red Lion Road over the Poquessing Creek, has been closed to traffic following an inspection by structural engineers. The recent inspection forced the bridge's "immediate" closure, according to a county release.
According to county Director of Special Projects Joe Bush, the bridge will remained closed for approximately two to three weeks. The work is being done by Bill Anskis Co., of Elysburg, Pa.
Patch observed crews working at the base of the stone arch bridge’s supports, which appeared to be deteriorated from years of running water. There was a large pipe and pump draining water from the creek at the bridge so work could be done.

The bridge is located off Bristol Pike in the Andalusia section of Bensalem directly behind the Lafayette Gardens condominium complex. It is one of 115 bridges owned and maintained by the County of Bucks.
Because the Poquessing Creek is the natural border between Bensalem and Philadelphia, a residential neighborhood in the city lies on the other side of the bridge. Red Lion Road at the bridge is one way coming into Bensalem.
