Woman Burned In Falls Apartment Fire

The woman, who was the only occupant of the apartment, was flown to the hospital by helicopter to be treated for her burns.

FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA — A woman was rushed to the hospital with burns to her face, arms and torso after an apartment fire Monday in Falls Township.

At about 5 p.m. Monday, firefighters were called to the Aspen Falls apartment complex at 135 Trenton Rd. in Fairless Hills. They arrived to find that residents had used personal fire extinguishers to fight the fire, helping contain it to a single apartment in the complex's E building.

The lone occupant of the apartment, a 41-year-old woman, suffered burns to her arms, face and torso, according to Falls Township Police Department spokesman Lt. Nelson Whitney. She was taken by medics to St. Mary's Hospital, then flown by helicopter to Temple University Hospital to be treated.

Inside the apartment, Whitney said, investigators found that three smoke detectors had been removed from their mounts and could not be found. There was a fire extinguisher mounted to a wall outside the apartment, he said, but it had not been used.

Investigators with the Falls Township Fire Marshal's office and the Falls Township Police Department are looking into the cause of the fire, Whitney said.
