Drug Take-Back Day Oct. 28 In The Spring-Ford Area

The U.S. Department of Justice organized the take-back program to help prevent drug addiction.

SPRING-FORD, PA โ€” Residents in the Spring-Ford area can participate in the national Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 28.

Unused medicines left in cabinets can end up being improperly used, resulting in addiction issues, according to the U.S. Department of Drug Enforcement.

  • Limerick Township Police Department: 646 W. Ridge Ave., Limerick.
  • Wegmanโ€™s at Providence Center, 600 Commerce Drive, Collegeville.

Both locations will be staffed by police from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Residents are asked to put the pills in a Ziploc baggie and drop it off.

The accepted drugs include over-the-counter tablets and capsules, inhalers, creams, ointments, nasal sprays, pet medicines, and vaping products.

Not accepted are needles, liquid meds, and intravenous/injectable solutions.

The program was started by the U.S. Department of Justice and is run locally by police departments and district attorney offices.

Since the program began, 66,725 pounds of unneeded medications at nearly 5,000 sites were collected, according to federal officials.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele said more than 114,000 pounds of medicines have been collected and safely disposed of in the county.
