High Voltage Gym Offers Something Different
This small family-owned gym is not your typical workout place.
Walk in to High Voltage Gym in Linfield and you'll notice right away this is not like other larger gyms in the area.
There is a small group of machines in the next room, and a very large mixed martial arts ring in another room.
However, owner Terri Arthur says that what makes High Voltage different is its family-oriented style.

"I like to remember names and goals," Arthur said. "That way, someone walks in I greet them by name and ask, 'how's your work [toward a goal] going?'"
"It gives it a personal touch, you're not a number here," Arthur said.

Arthur and her husband, Morgan Arthur, teach martial arts classes and train members who come to work out.
Among their class offerings are Okinawan Seidokan Karate, Toide Jujitsu, kickboxing, Muay Thai, mixed martial arts, and wrestling. They will soon be adding training in the Tabata Protocol - a high-intensity, short-duration workout system. They also teach conditioning for multiple sports.
There are offerings for all ages - Terri teaches a preschool karate class, and there are even some seniors who visit the gym.
High Voltage Gym is aso the home gym of local MMA fighter Jason Heflin, who will make his pro debut in November.
Morgan Arthur has been teaching for 40 years, Terri for 15 years. They started High Voltage Gym two years ago after leaving the YMCA.
In addition to the work they do in the gym, they have a strong belief in helping people out.
They have done a car show to raise funds for the family of a little girl stricken with cancer.
They work with several special kids - one boy, born with spina bifida, is a "very quick and agile wrestler," Arthur said. There are several children with Down syndrome in karate calsses at the gym.
The Arthurs ran several programs at the YMCA teaching fitness for kids, and hope to start the program up soon at High Voltage.
"We want to teach kids that fitness can be fun," Arthur said.
