Montgomery County Firefighter, 2019 HS Graduate, Dies At 19

"He was one of a kind with a heart of gold and will forever be missed.​"

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A Montgomery County firefighter is being mourned by the local community and first responders after passing away suddenly last Friday. Joseph Anthony Mazza was 19.

Mazza, a resident of Perkiomenville, was a member of Lower Frederick Fire Company, which he joined as a junior firefighter back in 2014, according to his obituary.

Mazza, who graduated from Perkiomen Valley High School just last year, also loved "hunting, farming, and fishing," his obituary states.

Local first responders and fire departments remembered him fondly and sent their condolences.

"The members of the Red Hill Fire Company send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Joey Mazza and to our Brothers and Sisters of Lower Frederick Fire Company. Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers."

"Our whole department is thinking of our brothers and sisters at Lower Frederick Fire Company for the untimely loss of one of their members," Harleysville Community Fire Company shared. "There is not much anyone could say to ease the pain that you all are likely feeling, but please know there are so many who surround your department and the Mazza family with support and friendship. Please keep all involved in your thoughts and prayers."

"There are no words that can accurately describe the amount of sadness that we feel with the sudden loss of our brother Joe." Lower Frederick Fire Company said in a statement. "He was one of a kind with a heart of gold and will forever be missed."

"Our hearts go out to the Mazza family and our brothers and sisters at Lower Frederick Fire Company," Upper Frederick Fire Company said.

Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, at R.L. Williams Jr. Funeral Home in Skippack. All are invited to a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. To read his full obituary, see here.
