Montgomery County Shelters Open Sunday

Three Red Cross shelters will open for MontCo residents at 7pm Sunday.

The Red Cross is preparing three emergency shelters for Montgomery County residents that may need to evacuate due to Hurricane Sandy. 

They are located at: 

Pottstown High School, 750 North Washington St.,  Pottstown 19464

Cheltenham High School, 500 Rices Mill Road, Wyncote 19095

Norristown High School, 1900 Eagle Dr., Norristown 19403

According to the Red Cross website, you should bring the following items to a shelter: 

  • prescription and emergency medication
  • extra clothing
  • pillows
  • blankets
  • hygiene supplies
  • flashlight with extra batteries
  • small board games
  • books for entertainment
  • speciality snacks and juices for those with dietary restrictions
  • basic snacks
  • baby food and formula
  • diapers
  • beach chair or camp chair
  • identification - including license and FPL or other utility bill
  • insurance papers
  • other comfort items

The shelters are pet-friendly. Montgomery County Animal Response Team (MCART) is assisting the Red Cross with pet areas in all three shelters.
