CHESTER COUNTY, PA โ€”A Chester County mom prays her infant son, Tate, will be home from the hospital with his twin brother, Oliver, who is already at home, for his first Christmas.
Elizabeth Lambert of West Grove borough gave birth to the twin boys on June 9, three months earlier than her due date, in Chester County Hospital in West Chester.
Baby Oliver went home with Elizabeth and her husband, Greg, but his brother, Tate, is still in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia being treated for breathing issues.
โ€œWe are hoping to get Tate home in time to spend his first Christmas with his twin brother,โ€ Lambert said during a recent interview with Patch. โ€œNo one wants to spend the holidays in the hospital.โ€
Lambert, a first-grade teacher in the West Chester School District, took time off for maternity leave.
She spends her days driving over an hour with Oliver, to the hospital to visit with her son, Tate, who has been diagnosed with PURA syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system. He had a tracheostomy to help him breathe.
In the meantime, the Lamberts learned how to take care of their son, who needs 24-hour care. Baby Tate was still in the hospital for Thanksgiving.

Needs a night home nurse

Tate is doctor-prescribed and authorized to receive round-the-clock skilled nursing care at home. Lambert said the nursing care is funded through Medicaid, a state and federal funding service for low-income adults, children, and people with disabilities.
Lambert said she and her husband are working with BAYADA Home Health Care in Downingtown to find a homecare nurse who specializes in tracheostomy.

Bradley Needham, BAYADA Downingtown office director, said the agency is working with the Lamberts to find a nurse to take on night shifts.
โ€œWe are doing everything we can to get baby Tate home with his family,โ€ Needham said.
The nurse must be willing to travel to West Grove, have experience working with infants, and be trained in using a trach vent.
Anyone interested in applying can contact Matt DiTullio mditullio@bayada.com or 267-279-6364.
