Tech System Repairs Will Stop I-76 Traffic In Wee Hours Sept. 3

PennDOT said today there will be periodic stoppages in a 14-mile section of I-76 between KOP and Philly on Sept. 3 for ITS repairs.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA β€” As the Labor Day weekend begins, PennDOT will make repairs to traffic management technology on I-76 in Lower Merion Township. The work requires periodic stoppages in both directions in the early hours of Sept. 3 but PennDOT said it will finish up by 5 a.m.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced the planned stoppages along a section of the Schuylkill Expressway for ITS repair along 14 miles of I-76 between King of Prussia and Philadelphia.

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) refers to technologies used for ground traffic management like traffic cameras, electronic tolling, road message signs, and real-time notifications.

The ITS repair in Montco is part of the recently completed installation of Variable Speed Limit (VSL) and Queue Detection and Warning (QDW) systems. For additional details, visit the Transform 76 website.

PennDOT said motorists on the Schuylkill Expressway will encounter periodic 15-minute traffic stoppages in both directions between the Belmont Avenue and City Avenue (U.S. 1 South) interchanges in Lower Merion Township in Montgomery County, on Sept. 3 from midnight to 5 a.m. Sept. 3.

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route or allow more time for travel in the work area because significant backups and slowdowns may occur. The schedule is weather-dependent.
