Upper Providence Little League Wins PA State Championship, Advances In World Series Tourney

Upper Providence Little League will represent Pennsylvania in the Mid-Atlantic Regional for a chance to compete in the World Series.

UPPER PROVIDENCE, PA — Your new Little League state champions have been crowned. After scoring 48 runs in four games, Upper Providence Little League of Montgomery County has emerged as the Little League Pennsylvania state champion.

The boys, aged 10-12, will move on to represent the Commonwealth in the Mid-Atlantic Regional competition in Bristol, Connecticut. The winner of that bracket will travel to Williamsport, Pennsylvania for the Little League World Series international tournament later in August.

Upper Providence advanced in a slugfest, soundly beating North Allegheny 18-5. Most of their games in the final round of the state tournament were similar: they beat Selinsgrove in the opening round 12-1, then Stroudsberg 12-0. Only Kingston/Forty Fort was a low scoring game, with Upper Providence coming out on top, 6-3.

The local sluggers will face off against the Delaware state champions. Their Mid-Atlantic bracket features winners from New Jersey, New York, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., as well.

The Oaks-based team played regular season games at Macfarlan Park, just off Egypt Road.

Upper Providence's matchup with Delaware is on Aug. 6.

The Little League level encompasses players aged 10-12. The winner of the United States bracket faces off against the winner of the international bracket in the World Series final.
