Increase In Thefts Of Packages Containing Phones In Lower Providence

Authorities believe it could be an organized theft ring tied to cases occurring nationwide.

LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA β€” Authorities around Montgomery County are warning of another uptick in thefts of packages containing mobile phones.

It's similar to a rash of thefts that occurred in the Collegeville and Phoenixville areas late in the summer.

The thefts seem to specifically target AT&T Wireless packages, and have been reported in Lower Providence and other nearby municipalities.

Similarly, Collegeville Police have also reported the recent theft of a package containing an Apple Watch delivered by FedEx.

"This has been happening all across our area and in multiple states," officials said back in late October. "It is reported to be an organized theft ring, and someone apparently has access to information from either the carrier or the delivery service."

Police urge residents to require a signature upon delivery for packages from mobile carriers, or having the device shipped to a local store for pickup.
